Victory within reach for the Cobras Women
The West Coast Cobras women’s A team face off against ChiCo5 in the Women’s Supa-Liga A final on Saturday night at 6pm. The Cobras have just walked away from a thrilling semi-final where they knocked the league winners out of the race.
Influential Cobras player Sarah Ranieri indicated that the Cobras would need to be at the top of their game, and the main focus was indeed, their game, for the final. “Chico5 like to press opponents and they can be quite physical and extremely quick on counter attacks. We both had long games last weekend that ended in penalty shoot-outs, but we know if we remain focused and look to keep possession of the ball, we will give ourselves the best opportunity possible to lift the trophy.”

Ranieri also highlighted key personnel, “we’ve had several new players come in or step up over the last 12 months, Mel Shepherd and Charlotte Hislop have been terrific additions with their experience and intelligence. Taylor Reid has given us youthful exuberance and ability, Shelby Cochran is a great on court leader and we have a keeper who has bailed us out of too many situations with her quality and bravery in Annie Leyland. If we play how we can, we have a great chance of victory.”
Leyland herself highlighted the threat Chico5 pose. “Amanda Litana is one of the best natural finishers, and with classy players like Gina Jimenez, Cainna Dietz, and Tania Oyarzun, we need to be focussed. But we are confident.”
The Cobras women would appreciate all the support possible at Subiaco Futsal on Saturday night with the kickoff at 6pm, in amongst their 17 men’s and men’s first teams who are also playing in Grand-finals at 4:45 and 7:15 respectively.
