National Futsal Championships
There are two components to the National Futsal Championships, the school and the club components. First is the National School Futsal Championships is run in the September/October school holidays each year and has been based in Brisbane over the last several years. Teams for this tournament are selected after players are invited to trial, following their selection at the local School Titles which are held in the 1st school term each year in Western Australia.
The National Club Futsal Championships are held in Sydney each year in January. Players are selected from the local club competitions, the Supa-Liga and the Junior Futsal Leagues, for their respective age groups. From both the National School and National Club Championships, players are identified for international representation and recognition. Players will be invited to go on international tours or for tournaments which can be terrific learning experiences for players as well as excellent opportunities to be immersed in other cultures and to see futsal in a slightly different way.
Futsal World Cup
Teams from WA have had moderate success in recent years with multiple female teams being crowned National Champions from the 15s age groups upwards to the youth women. There has also been a history of national team representation with 4 WA players attending the Women’s Futsal World Cup in Spain in 2017 and 4 in the Youth women’s World Cup team in 2018. While having had less success at the National Championships in the male competitions, in recent years we have had a player play in the Under 17 men’s World Cup, the Under 20 men’s World Cup, and 2 players in the men’s World Cup squad.
